Browsing Music by Usage Context

چکیده
This paper aims to motivate and demonstrate how widely available environmental data can be exploited to allow organization, structuring and exploration of music collections by personal listening contexts. We describe a logging plug-in for music players that automatically records data about the listening context and discuss possible extensions for more sophisticated context logging. Based on data collected in a small user experiment, we show how data mining techniques can be applied to reveal common usage patterns. Further, a prototype user interface based on elastic lists for browsing by listening context is presented.

Geoshuffle: Location-Aware, Content-based Music Browsing Using Self-organizing Tag Clouds
In the past few years the computational capabilities of mobile phones have been constantly increasing. Frequently these smartphones are also used as portable music players. In this paper we describe GeoShuffle – a prototype system for content-based music browsing and exploration that targets such devices. One of the most interesting aspects of these portable devices is the inclusion of position...
متن کاملMusic Browsing Using a Tabletop Display
The majority of work in Music Information Retrieval (MIR) follows a search/retrieval paradigm. More recently, the importance of browsing as an interaction paradigm has been realized, and several novel interfaces have been proposed. In this paper, we describe two novel interaction schemes for content-aware browsing of music collections that use a graphical tabletop interface. We further present ...

At present, music digital library systems are being developed based on anecdotal evidence of user needs, intuitive feelings for user information seeking behavior, and a priori assumptions of typical usage scenarios. Emphasis has been placed on basic research into music document representation, efficient searching, and audiobased searching, rather than on exploring the music information needs or...
متن کاملDoes Bach sound like Björk?: Clustering and searching in music collections
A vast amount of music is stored in multimedia networks such as the Web. Most of this music, however, is stored in unstructured ways that make navigation difficult. The ability to browse and search in music networks, using the content of the music itself rather than only its context, would be very useful. This paper presents an approach to clustering and searching in music collections using pro...

In recent years the digital media has influenced many areas of our life. The transition from analogue to digital has substantially changed our ways of dealing with media collections. Today‟s interfaces for managing digital media mainly offer fixed linear models corresponding to the underlying technical concepts (folders, events, albums, etc.), or the metaphors borrowed from the analogue counter...
